Music Therapy

..there is an inborn musicality residing in every human..

I wonder why I did'nt think of Music therapy as a serious career earlier. I attribute it to my lack of exposure to it as a profession in India. As my days working as a Clinical Project Analyst in New York increase, I realize its something I definitely dont want to be trapped doing. There is something in me that tells me to pursue a career that has a direct impact on people, on humans, to better our lives.

Psychology, special education, and anatomy with specific core courses and field experiences are part of a course in music therapy. Science has proven that MT is something that can definitely assist many with mental disorders, depression and autism; through the use of improvisational music in which the individual's innate creativity is used to overcome emotional, physical, and cognitive difficulties. There is an inborn musicality residing in every human being that can be activated in the service of personal growth and development.

Listen, listen, what do you hear? (sound played on tape)
I hear an ambulance.

(I hear a baby cry.)
(I hear my mother calling...)

Very interesting! I didn't know music therapy was a career option - but it sounds really good! ( pun intended )

Check out the link above: it seems that we respond to animal music as well! Whale cries seem to help pregnancies, soothe babies and more.

If music be the food of love, play on;
Give me excess of it, that, surfeiting,
The appetite may sicken, and so die.
That strain again! it had a dying fall:
O, it came o'er my ear like the sweet sound
That breathes upon a bank of violets,
Stealing and giving odour!
- William Shakespeare.
